LIBOR Donates $10,000 to Relief Efforts in Haiti
The Long Island Board of REALTORS®, Inc.(LIBOR) a not for profit trade association made up of over 21,000 real estate professionals on Long Island, will make a $10,000 donation to help the Haitian people affected by the recent devastating earthquake.  The donation was approved during the January Board of Directors meeting held at the Long Island Board of REALTORS®, Inc. headquarters in West Babylon, New York.  After the meeting, LIBOR President Kathy Engel said, “The Long Island real estate community is deeply touched by the loss of life and damage caused by the earthquake in Haiti.  These are very challenging times for the people of Haiti.  Long Island REALTORS® believe that we need to come together and give what we can to try and help the people of Haiti rebuild their lives.”

From Where I Sit
Years ago, I seem to recall an IBM ad: the essence of which was summed up in the phrase “Action without planning is chaos and planning without action is frustration”.  Through the years, almost everyone at some point or other experiences both. Over those years, we have had some good, well thought out plans which both LIBOR and MLSLI developed as “Road Maps” for where the Leadership believed the organizations should go.

HUD Takes Action to Speed Resale of Foreclosed Properties to New Owners
In an effort to stabilize home values and improve conditions in communities where foreclosure activity is high, HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan recently announced a temporary policy that will expand access to FHA mortgage insurance and allow for the quick resale of foreclosed properties. The announcement is part of the Obama administration commitment to addressing foreclosure. Secretary Donovan recently announced $2 billion in Neighborhood Stabilization Program grants to local communities and nonprofit housing developers to combat the effects of vacant and abandoned homes.

2009 Long Island Average Home Prices Off by 11.7% Number of Closed Transactions up 2.8%
Recently, the Multiple Listing Service of Long Island, Inc. (MLSLI) released the 2009 year end housing figures for Long Island.  The figures released by MLSLI reported a $426,086 average sale price in 2009 for a home on Long Island.  This figure is 11.7 percent lower than 2008 when the Multiple Listing Service of Long Island, Inc. reported an average sales price of $482,526 for Long Island.  MLSLI collects and reports on Long Island housing data, which includes Nassau, Suffolk and Queens.

The Long Island Board of REALTORS®, Inc. began in 1910, with a small group of Long Island land developers who met informally on an ongoing basis and formed the

Long Island Real Estate Board which is now known as the Long Island Board of REALTORS®, Inc. (LIBOR). From its inception, the goal of the Board was to further the best interests of those engaged in the real estate business as well as the need for protection of the public and community. In 1916 the Long Island Real Estate Board became a member of the National Association of Real Estate Boards that was founded in 1907.
